New here, but old

  • Hi guys, see a lot of names here from other forums from past years!
Hope all is going well here?
Any way, i sold my WSM 2 years ago, because of storage reasons! I Still have a fleet of webers, around the house!
Today i went to a few bbq stores = 18" wsm is $750
But also saw the bbq galore dragon kamado $400!
So my question is, is the dragon up to the wsm? Also dragon has no reflector plate or cover!
    Or stick with the WSM?
2nd question for the gas gurus
My wife has allways liked the look of the Weber Genesis, is it a MUCH BETTER bbq then the Q320?
    Cheers guys

g'day Dane, good to see you here. This place has taken off in the past 10 months. ^^ We've just topped 25,000 posts at a an average of 76 per day, by far the most of any Oz BBQ forum.

I'd save the money on a Genesis and go with the 320Q. And with the savings......

Have a look at the Bunnings Akorn over the Dragon. Both good pits but maybe more bang for buck on the Akorn with accessories. A deflector plate is a must have on either.

Also check out the Costco ceramic kamado which has just come down in price to $800. That's bloody good value.

With a Weber 320 and a good kamado, you have just about covered all your BBQ needs.

Big Green Egg - Asmoke Pellet Grill - Weber Kettle - Maximus Pizza Oven - Dragon Hibachi - Ziggy Portable - baby kamado - Grillz 2 burner - Cobb BBQ - Converted Gas Bottle Spit - Charbroil Grill2go - Anova sous vide - Digi Q controller - plus Tip Top Temp - Smokeware cap - Grill Grates

Hi TD, great to see you over here!

If you have access to Costco you can get a WSM for $480
Weber bbqs and more at Costco

Also, there's no time like the present to pickup an Akorn Kamado at Bunnings (with deflector and cover for $389) Bunnings bargain Akorn kamado
I've never had a WSM, but I think a Kamado is an essential BBQ to own due to its versatility.
Lastly I can say a few words for the Genesis as I own one. I think it's a great BBQ and I use mine all the time, but if I could go back in time I would not spend that much money and space on a gasser and would instead lean towards the 320. The money saved could buy both of the above deals.

They won't let you in without a card. I've tried. :( You'll need to join or take a mate.

Yep, you need to be a member (or go with one). The good thing is that if you don't want to shop there anymore you can get your membership refunded anytime. Honestly though, it is one of my favourite shops. I've bought just about everything there, from aluminium foil to a leather lounge (which I got home with a $35 bunnings trailer hire).

  • Cheers guys! Good to see a few old names talking up bbq!
Also do costco do the large bags of lump charcoal or beads, and fruit wood chunks at a good price, like they sell at Costco Usa? And would the local weber specialist store match this wsm price? Or do costco import there own

Excellent things (this is just a BBQer's shortlist) to check out at Costco:
    - Pork spare ribs ($16.99)
    - Pork baby back ribs ($18.99)
    - Pork belly
    - Pork belly sliced
    - Pork butts
    - Mussels
    - Pipis
    - The big box of lamb (around $8 per kg)
Unfortunately the beef is all grain fed, however it still tastes good and worth looking at, especially:
    - The giant beef brisket
    - Beef ribs
    - Tomahawk steaks

    - Aluminium foil caterer's pack
    - glad wrap caterer's pack
    - Cholula sauce, baby rays sauce, montreal steak seasoning, etc.

    - Check out the hotdogs and the bacon in the fridges.

Honestly I better stop there as my list goes on and on...

  • Costco membership is $60. You can buy lots of stuff which you don't normally get in Australia and you just need to buy the XL Kamado and you already got your money back. $800 for an XL Kamado is unmatched value for money except for the Bunning's Akorn currently on special.

I was there today. I bought a pair of good quality shorts and a good quality T-Shirt which added up to less than $40. I reckon I saved my membership money in just those two items. Let alone the rest of the stuff for the rest of the year... They also have an excellent returns policy. Just don't go there on the weekend!

So you saying the xl is good but the Akorn is better?
