One of the best and cheapest additions I made to my Weber kettle was to add a thermometer to the lid. It doesn't have to be super accurate but it certainly gives me an indication of what is going on inside without having to run a wire under the lid for a remote style thermometer. I just got one from ebay, drilled the hole and put it in. It has a wing nut on the inside to secure it.
