My father is saying that the fire pit I have bought from aldi has a shit design and that I can't cook with it because its main thing has holes in it where heat will escape. He says it won't keep enough heat and to take it back. Is this true? (Attached picture shows the "holes" my father does not like.
ALDI fire pit has little holes in it (part of design) Will it keep heat?

Looks like a great fire pit to me. Fire pits are designed to radiate heat and they need good airflow to do that, hence the holes.

I can't comment on the quality of the metal but a fire needs to breathe or you will not get an optimum fire.
My bet is that'll get hot enough top cook the egg where it sits!

Saw that advertised....looks good to me too........you are after all buying a fire pit & not a BBQ.

Think of how convection works. Hot air from the fire goes up, cool air feeding the fire comes through the holes, feeds the fire, then goes up, repeat.
Your issue with cooking won't be if that pit can get hot enough, it will be letting the fire die down the right amount so you can cook and not burn your food.

On a fire pit you'll only be cooking with the flame directly below the food so I don't see a heat retention problem.
For a fire pit to burn clean (minimise the smoke) it needs to let oxygen to the fire. If the pit is not very big the holes are a must.
