KJ is now at Bunnings

    • Official Post

Interesting indeed. I see it's the same price as BBQs G have and it's only one of the many models, not their most popular which would be the standard Joe at $999.

I can't see Bunnings buyers forking out that much for a BBQ because there's nobody in the store to explain how it works and why it's better etc. but maybe I'm wrong. More discerning buyers would be hunting out specialist BBQ retailer I reckon.

I also agree about supporting the smaller guys, be they BBQs Galore or any of the others.

Big Green Egg - aSmoke Grill - Weber Kettle - Maximus Pizza Oven - Dragon Hibachi - Ziggy Portable - baby kamado - Cobb BBQ - Converted Gas Bottle Spit - Charbroil Grill2go - Anova sous vide - Digi Q controller

  • I did see on FB that they are also stocking Joe Jr as well so I am not sure about the complete line up.

Obviously somebody at BBQG has stuffed up and not signed the exclusivity contract again ???

  • Interesting....but as you say it is series 1 stuff......and if it was me buying one of these I would be looking at the newest release.....not the oldest!

Also remember that BBQs Galore is as far as I know still on the market.

Or maybe they weren't selling enough and lost the sole rights ?

    This could be one reason....

Ziggy Trpl. ....Z Grill 700E.....Aldi/Masterbuilt & Camp Chef Gassers... Camp Chef cast iron.....Thermoworks Smoke.

  • I do recall KJ's in the Sitro showroom when I looked at the Masterbuilt 560 ages ago now........nothing would surprise me on this.....even Sitro could be supplying them to Bunnings!

Ziggy Trpl. ....Z Grill 700E.....Aldi/Masterbuilt & Camp Chef Gassers... Camp Chef cast iron.....Thermoworks Smoke.

  • Apparently the KJ junior is $499 at Bunnings vs $700 at BBQG.

    On a Jr that’s huge.

Personally would get a Akorn Jr but that’s a big pricing difference for no difference in grill.

BBQG must be livid that the alternative is out there and is showing what price gouging has been going on.

Was interesting on the Kamado FB group which is run by BBQG KJ people not one of them commented on the post as I guess they are hoping it dies a quiet death.

Don’t get me wrong KJ is a good product but I have an issue with a singular supplier agreement as it takes the customer out of the deal.

At least with BGE and to a lesser degree with Primo you can get a deal through a independent BBQ store and your decision will be based on Service and price not just the only people who sell it.

  • Bunnings has been expanding it's BBQ lines over the years. With most people buying stuff and researching on the internet first and buying on-line the lack of floor staff is not as much as a problem as it once was. Bunnings is offering free delivery for the Big Joe which is good for on-line buyers. Especially with all the Covid lockdown it comes down to the lowest price and easy to buy on-line shopping.

BBQG has been opening their flashy stores. They look great but they don't have anything near the range of the old stores. They have poor on-line support. I am still waiting for them to respond from a help email looking to buy something.

  • Being a franchise operation, BBQs Galore's service will vary from store to store and like all national franchise groups, they will have good operators and bad operators.

Big Green Egg - aSmoke Grill - Weber Kettle - Maximus Pizza Oven - Dragon Hibachi - Ziggy Portable - baby kamado - Cobb BBQ - Converted Gas Bottle Spit - Charbroil Grill2go - Anova sous vide - Digi Q controller

  • I dont go to BBQG anymore.

There was one 5 minutes from home but it closed and now the nearest is 30 mins away.

Only have independent retailers & Bunnings out my way now.

  • Being a franchise operation, BBQs Galore's

A lot of stores are Company owned also......possibly the reason for some stores poor service.

12x7 you could ring head office...seems to get things moving most times for me.

Ziggy Trpl. ....Z Grill 700E.....Aldi/Masterbuilt & Camp Chef Gassers... Camp Chef cast iron.....Thermoworks Smoke.

  • Agree, the only place for worse service I found would be BCF.

Big Green Egg - aSmoke Grill - Weber Kettle - Maximus Pizza Oven - Dragon Hibachi - Ziggy Portable - baby kamado - Cobb BBQ - Converted Gas Bottle Spit - Charbroil Grill2go - Anova sous vide - Digi Q controller

  • I'm getting service from the head office

They are very slow at getting back to you.....minimum 2 weeks in my experiences......a phone call seems to expediate things along.

Ohhh & my money is on Sitro supplying the KJs to Bunnings!

Ziggy Trpl. ....Z Grill 700E.....Aldi/Masterbuilt & Camp Chef Gassers... Camp Chef cast iron.....Thermoworks Smoke.

  • I am with you gourmetgalaxy although I reckon BBQG will still sell them no different to Masterbuilt being available in multiple outlets.

cheekily somebody on FB said "ok lets wait until BBQG do their 20% off sale and then front up at Bunnings and get the 10% price guarantee ".

I don't think that there will ever be another 20% off sale again on KJ at BBQG.

  • So did a random walk in to my local Big Green Shed and there they are.

So series 1 with plate setter and deflector and segmented firebox.

    Pretty good value IMO.

Sure felt gasket but that’s standard on most Kamado’s anyway.

Was interesting seeing it set up between two Chargriller offerings.

    My advice.

On sale at BBQG for $799

Buy Kamado Joe Original Red at Barbeques Galore.

get price match less another 10% and you are at $720 odd now that’s value.
