I looked at this as well , nice. then went and bought an anova precision cooker pro, at half price for $314.00. i have not used it yet .waiting for the 16ltr anova container.
yeah, i know ..... overkill, but i got pissed with using the aldi sous vide bath. and if your gunna do it ...... do it big.
container should arrive early this week i hope. might jump straight in and do a reverse sous vide brisket or pork butt. 'cause ..... if I stuff up , i am gunna do it big time. for sure. it's going to be a fun trip.

container arrived yesterday.
had a crack at frozen T-bone steaks. just to have a play.
set it on 57c for medium ( wife's preference )
3.5hrs. including the 1hr for defrosting, then 2hrs cook.
sparked up the Q, preheated to fierce,
dried steaks off
seasoned them
then threw them on the weber Q to bark up , flipped every 30 seconds for 2mins.
damn ........ it didn't do it's job. maybe a plate or griddle would do better?
bugger it . might have to buy a gas scorching torch
however , all up i am quite impressed.
the steaks were medium, tender and good flavor.
just need to get that caramelized, crusty finish, and all is good.

I've become a recent fan of the griddle for searing. Hard to beat actually.
-
Weber Q's don't get hot enough, I don't use mine for this purpose. Blow torch works well.
-
I use a CI pan or get the Saffire smelting hot.
-
Try a Searzall, they are great for searing after sous vide.
-
Gumb,
do you think the lekky fire starter thing might do the trick?
yeah i know , not as portable but ....... it sure belts out the heat.
if not, i might just grab a searzall.
thanks.
-
I don't think they'd be good at searing Kev but I can't say for sure 'cos I've never tried one.
Any gas blow torch does the job too but I like the Searzall because it spreads the heat more than a direct flame.
-
ok,
i check out some of the online stores and grab one.
thank you
