Seems we are now getting nuclear powered submarines? Wonder if this opens the door to nuclear power plants.
You would imagine that it will open that door!

You need to open it wider to fit the inflated egos of the blockheads in Canberra through the gap.
We already have a nuclear dump as we take other countries waste. Makes sense to use it to me.
I tend to think the problems may lay in the hands of cancel Culture and the naysayers of our everyday life that will force our weak kneed Governments to make legislation against the use of solid fuel if not Gas fueled BBQs because all the left wing Cancel Culturalists have all become vegan.
Jimmy70 That makes sense.
I currently sell about 500kWh a month I believe, from a 10.56kW system.
I've looked in to a battery but by the time I break even on costs, the battery will need to be replaced.
I'm going to wait for them to get a lot cheaper before I get one.
Fro-Daddy ghats exactly where we will land I think.
I agree about battery storage and costs. It's not feasible at the moment and that applies to home storage or mass storage on the grid.
I have a friend with a country home which is not on the 240v grid so they have solar panels on the roof an inverter and a large bank of batteries, all replaced in the past few years and it cost a lot to do. But they still run the fridge on bottle gas, as do many similar country homes. They live in northern Vic so it's sunny most of the time and I wonder if they'll have to change the fridge to electric at some point in the near future but that may mean even more panels are required and more batteries to hold the power.
On another issue, we have a planned power outage today at 11am for 4 hours. I have solar panels but can't use that power during the outage, which just seems odd to me.
But guess what, it's cloudy in Melbourne right now so how much power I could generate is questionable. And that's the whole point of the crazy rush to close down fossil fuel power supply. No sun, no wind, no power.

From what I gather in Australia, unless you have battery back-up, if you lose external power the inverter shuts down to protect the workers from faulty installations where the power from the inverter flows back into the grid and keeps the surrounding lines live.
Correct, they have to disable the solar so the guys on the lines don't get zapped but surely there's a way for the power from the panels to only go to the home and not back to the grid if the power is cut off ? It would need some form of sensor switch to cut the feed, somewhat like a relay on the car does when the igintion is turned off.
The demise of the local butcher is something that will affect bbq'ing in the near and mid-term future.
As well as being less/no local butchers you are stuck buying from ColesWorth.
With fewer butchers and less variety of cuts they can offer we may see the remaining butchers less skilled.
With the rise of on-line groceries you will also lose the ability to see your meat before you buy it.
Also custom cuts will be harder to get. If it ain't on the website, you can't get it.
Less competition to ColesWorth in the longer term means higher prices.
Which is why I keep harping on in here about buying from a (good) local butcher and NOT the big guys.

That should be possible1 I'm no electrician but that sounds like an inverter driving an isolator switch to me!
it should be possible but at the moment I don't think it's legal to do it.

That'd be so you have to suffer like everyone else when there is a power outage!

Big changer will be electric cars that can act as a battery at night.
Our homes actually don't need that much power, so if you can store what you produce via solar then you'll have plenty for the house overnight and plenty for the car the next day.

But how do you charge your car from solar at home during the day while it's parked at work?
