Using fire bricks for pizza stone

  • Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has used firebricks / refractory bricks instead of a pizza stone on a Kamado bbq? I’ve cracked two pizza stones (admittedly cheaper ones) due to a combination of a hot 700f oven and transferring a cold pizza base to it. I had preheated the stone with the oven - so it wasn’t dropping a cold stone into a hot oven

I was hoping the firebricks might be a bit more durable. I know built in wood fired pizza ovens use them

they would be sitting on top of the grill, with a deflector in place underneath, then would put the dough straight onto the bricks

  • I think they should work, but the heating up and temps might need some testing to get top and bottom cooked evenly.
