Ceres Strong Ale Beer import

  • Hi brainstrust,

I've recently returned from a trip to Italy and while there fell in love all over again with a beer that I remember from my youth.

Ceres Strong Ale (7.7%) is an amazing beer and my all time favourite. It's a bit of a weird one though: made in Denmark and one of the leading beers in Italy, but not hugely distributed elsewhere.

Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere in Oz and can't seem to be able to import it for less than a fortune.

Do any of you have any ideas on how I could get a hold of it or import a few cases with reasonable delivery costs? (the first quote I got was approx $850 for delivery of 48 bottles which is ridiculous).

The 330cl individual bottles in Italy cost around 2-2.5 Euros at the supermarket (approx $3-4).

I'm prepared to pay premium for it,but within reason.

  • G’day

Why not approach one of the larger bottlos and ask if they would stock it. If it’s a leading beer in Italy why not. They import Bud don’t they?

Another is asahi beer from Japan they make it in Brisbane under license. It doesn’t have to be imported but made here,

I think it would pay to send out a txts. The big breweries have to get their ideas from somewhere.

    Regards Dave

  • Do you have any independent specialty booze shops in your area? They might be able to import it cheaper if they are already importing European beers.

The Asahi made in Australia is terrible. I only buy the cans now as they are still brewed in Japan.

It's not really the same. I think some cans of asahi are imported and taste better.

if they are already importing European beers

I don't have any around me, but I think this might be a good option. Now I just need to find out who imports beer from Europe.

I had a look at some Asahi at Aldi and it's imported via NZ.

  • Did you try calling some Italian restaurants in Leichhardt or Haberfield? Being the Italian heart of Sydney they might be importing some for their customers or friends.

No because they're usually far off the pace for food and I don't think they direct import alcohol.

I'll see how I go. If anyone knows of any European alcohol importer let me know.
